What is a 180-Day Letter?

Ohio Medical Malpractice Attorney explains the importance of a 180-Day Letter in Hospital negligence lawsuits

Ohio allows a notice of intent to be filed before the actual lawsuit. That’s the significance of a 180-day letter. In filing a notice of intent, a plaintiff (the patient) then has six more months added to the year limit from the statute of limitations. These six months enable the plaintiff and attorney to research the case more, thus preparing it better before fully filing. Caution: Service of Process may require personal service.

If you are injured by a doctor, you may be entitled to compensation through a medical malpractice lawsuit. In Ohio, there are thousands of medical malpractice claims each year. Millions of dollars are recovered for injured victims. The recovered funds help compensate for past medical costs, future medical care, lost earnings and wages, pain and suffering and emotional damages. If you’ve been injured and considering filing a claim, it is prudent to contact an experienced attorney.

“Medical malpractice” is defined in court as certain mistakes made by doctors and professional healthcare providers. The circumstances are often different for each patient. Medical malpractice may occur through gross negligence of a hospital, physician mistreatment, misdiagnoses, or wrong-site surgery. Medical malpractice is typically unintentional, though doctors are still liable for serious injuries that result.
