Alere Strip Recall: Patients On Blood Thinners at Risk

Ohio Medical Device Lawyer reviews reported Alere Strip recall lawsuits and Failures and for plaintiffs nationwide

Alere has issued an urgent, voluntary recall of their INRatio®2 PT/INR Professional Test Strips (PN 99008G2). Readers whose loved ones are taking warfarin should check in to inquire about the brand of their home anticoagulant monitoring device, and patients taking the oral anticoagulant drugs, Warfarin (Coumadin), Xarelto,  or Pradaxa should have their in-office and/or home healthcare teams check the brand of their PI/INR test strips and monitoring system.

Anticoagulant or blood-thinning therapy is prescribed for people who have undergone replacement or mechanical heart valve surgery, have irregular heartbeats such as atrial fibrillation, have had heart attacks, or are at risk for blood clotting due to a pulmonary embolism (a blood clot in the lungs.)

Medical device companies all too often produce defective products, which may be the result of improper testing, or gross negligence. If a patient is injured after using a defective medical device, the victim can file suit and recover medical costs, lost wages and damages related to pain and suffering.

Causes Alere Strip Failure

Alere is uncertain as to why the strips are failing to give an accurate reading. So they have been appropriately and aggressively notifying patients and healthcare professionals about the problems with these strips. Alere customers should have received this letter dated April 16, 2014. The company has notified the FDA and the agency published recall information. The Healthline Reference Library has an excellent and easily-accessible patient explainer on anticoagulant therapy.
