Data theft events have increased dramatically in recent years, and it is estimated that over 144 million Americans’ medical data was exposed last year in a slough of large health care data breaches. Health care entities are required by law to report any data security breaches that expose patient information to Health and Human Services (HHS) in a timely manner.

What Happened at ALN Medical Management?

On May 23, 2024, ALN Medical Management (a part of Health Prime International) filed a data breach notice with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office for Civil Rights (HHS) after discovering that certain confidential information was accessed by an unauthorized individual. In their notice, ALN Medical Management says the data privacy incident resulted in the unauthorized party being able to access certain sensitive information. After an initial investigation and a review of the compromised files to determine what information was leaked and which consumers were impacted, ALN started sending out data breach notification letters to all impacted individuals.

If you receive a data breach notification from ALN or another health care company, it is important to understand that you may be at an increased risk of fraud and identity theft. There are several unknowns at this point, however, the company has described the situation as “Hacking / IT incident” of a “network server.” There is no evidence that data has been stolen, although similar breaches in the past have included data theft.

ALN Medical Management, LLC, operating out of Maryland, is a revenue cycle management company that is now a part of Health Prime International.
