The Lyon Firm is actively involved in class action personal privacy and data theft cases and is currently investigating Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services data breach claims for plaintiffs nationwide.

The Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services (HFS) and the Illinois Department of Human Services (IDHS) have begun notifying the media and over 50,000 impacted individuals of a data security incident within the State of Illinois Application for Benefits Eligibility (ABE) system.

On March 13, 2023, HFS discovered suspicious user accounts created within the ABE system, used to link to existing customer accounts. The health departments authorities believe customer personal information had been previously stolen to log in to the system. The information potentially viewed within the MMC portal includes the following:

  • Name
  • Address
  • Phone number
  • Date of birth
  • Recipient identificationnumber
  • Individual ID
  • Case ID
  • Social Security Number
  • Benefits applied for and received
  • Income information
