What Happened at Recology?
According to a notice posted on the company website, on November 2, 2023, Recology discovered unusual activity on its IT network and later concluded that an unauthorized party accessed certain personal consumer information. In total, the data of 30,683 victims was compromised in the data breach.
What Data was Leaked in the Data Breach?
After discovering the breach, Recology began an internal investigation with the help of an outside cybersecurity team. They began to identify and notify a group of individuals whose information may have been accessed. The information at risk may differ for each individual but could include the following:
- Name
- Address
- Date of birth
- Social Security number
- Driver’s license number
- Financial account number
Recology is now sending out breach notifications to potentially involved individuals, and is offering complimentary identity theft protection services for those individuals whose Social Security numbers and/or driver’s license numbers were compromised. Recology serves 127 communities and around 2.5 million individuals in California, Oregon, Washington, and Nevada.
