In early August 2021, Smith Protective Management became aware of suspicious activity in its IT network, and began an investigation into the security breach. Smith hired cybersecurity specialists and determined that 79,450 individuals (current and former employees) may have had their personal information compromised in a data breach between July 30, 2021 and August 1, 2021.
