Texas ENT Specialists (Texas Ear, Nose & Throat Specialists) has begun alerting patients of a recent cyberattack in October 2021 that may have impacted up to 535,489 individuals.
Texas ENT has investigated the cyberattack with the help of a third-party cybersecurity firm, and determined that hackers gained access to its IT systems in August 2021. Sensitive personal data files were copied and exfiltrated in the attack. The protected health information (PHI) of over half a million patients was compromised, including the following:
- Names
- Dates of birth
- Medical record numbers
- Procedure codes
- Social Security numbers
Texas ENT Specialists started mailing data breach notification letters to affected individuals on December 10, 2021. The company says it has strengthened its privacy and information security program and implemented additional technical cybersecurity measures.
