Over 102,000 victims were allegedly impacted by a recent ransomware attack on TTEC. TTEC, formerly TeleTech Holdings, out of Englewood, Colorado, is a large customer service and online sales company, with links to huge companies like Bank of America, Best Buy, Credit Karma, Dish Network, Kaiser Permanente, USAA and Verizon.
Back in September 2021, reports of a TTEC data breach surfaced when a widespread system outage prevented employees from accessing servers. TTEC determined that some devices in its network had been encrypted with malware.
A subsequent TTEC data breach investigation found that a ransomware gang was responsible and files containing personal information may have been compromised. Names and Social Security numbers may have been stolen in the attack.
TTEC has made the following statement: “TTEC is committed to cyber security, and to protecting the integrity of our clients’ systems and data. We recently became aware of a cybersecurity incident that has affected certain TTEC systems….We also launched an investigation, typical under the circumstances, to determine the potential impacts. In serving our clients TTEC, generally, does not maintain our clients’ data, and the investigation to date has not identified compromise to clients’ data.”
The full extent of the encrypted data and data theft incident is still unknown, but victims who have received a data breach notification letter have been offered a one-year membership to credit monitoring and identity theft protection services.
