What Happened at Hanmi Bank?

Hanmi Bank was notified by Fiserv, a third-party vendor, that they had experienced a data security incident in which Hanmi Bank data, including sensitive personal identifiable information (PII), could have been accessed and acquired.

Fiserv concluded that an unauthorized party may have accessed this data between May 27 and May 31, 2023 through a vulnerability in the MOVEit Transfer file sharing software, which Fiserv was using at the time of the breach.

Curiously, not until January 2024 did Hanmi Bank begin notifying individuals whose information may have been impacted. The specific type of personal information potentially compromised has not been made publicly available by Hanmi Bank though personal information can include the following:

  • Names
  • Social Security numbers
  • Driver’s licenses
  • Financial information (account or card numbers)

Hanmi Bank is a community bank operating out of Los Angeles California. The bank specializes in small business banking and offers SBA Lending, Commercial Real Estate Lending, Equipment Leasing, Specialty Lending, Treasury Management Services as well as personal banking services such as consumer loans, home loans, checking and savings accounts, credit and debit cards, and internet and mobile banking.
