Chrysler Defect: Faulty Wire & Fire Probe Expanded to 600K More Vehicles

Ohio Auto Product Liability Lawyer reviews the Chrysler Defect Reported by the NHTSA involving faulty wires leading to possible fires

A Chrysler defect, affecting hundreds of thousands of cars, poses a fire hazard. According to an article in the Detroit News, “NHTSA said it has upgraded its investigation into 593,000 2011-2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee and Dodge Durango SUVs to an engineering analysis.” The NHTSA claims there may be 52 unique incidents of fire on Grand Cherokee and Durango vehicles, including three claims of personal injury.

The News notes that investigation is an expansion of an earlier investigation into reports of fires in Jeep Grand Cherokee. “NHTSA said it has now identified five reports of vehicle headliners catching fire at the front of the vehicle near the sun visors on Jeep Grand Cherokees.” NHSA further said, “The cause of these fires is an electrical short in the vanity lighting wiring circuit that is routed to either one of the sun visors.”

Chrysler Defect Attorney & Auto Recalls

When automakers fail to control their quality and provide basic safety features, federal oversight by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and product liability attorneys can help mitigate the losses and damages. The majority of injuries and deaths on the road are preventable, yet faulty auto design and manufacturing defects are still not always addressed in a timely fashion.

Many accident victims are left with huge medical expenses, lost wages, physical and emotional pain and suffering, and, in many cases, permanent injuries.

Chrysler is not the only car maker with a history of safety recalls. In fact, defective auto components are so common that every auto manufacturer has issued recalls due to a variety of safety concerns, including defective brakes, fuel systems, software, windshield wipers, windows, suspension, throttle, cruise control, seat backs, seat belts, airbags, and tires.
