What Happened at Cardiovascular Consultants?

According to sources, on September 29, 2023, Cardiovascular Consultants learned that a threat actor claimed to have breached its computer systems and stolen a large amount of personal data.

The German dialysis group, Fresenius Medical Care, announced that data including medical records on 500,000 patients and former patients were stolen from a Cardiovascular Consultants data warehouse. Cardiovascular Consultants Ltd., a subsidiary of Fresenius Medical Care AG, is a healthcare provider that operates 10 locations in and around Phoenix. As a cardiovascular practice, they offer a variety of medical consultations and advanced testing including vascular and cardiac ultrasound, surgical diagnostics, nuclear cardiology, PET, and electrophysiology.

Patients, former patients, guarantors and staff located across several states may have had their data compromised, including the following:

  • Name
  • Social Security number
  • Address
  • Date of birth
  • Contact information
  • Driver’s license number
  • Health insurance information
  • Medical information (diagnosis and treatment information)

Cardiovascular Consultants explains in a notice on their website that the incident resulted in an unauthorized party being able to access the sensitive information listed above. The company has begun sending out data breach notification letters to all individuals whose information may have been affected by the data security incident.
