What Happened at Pacific Guardian Life Insurance?

On April 4, 2024, the Pacific Guardian Life Insurance Company (PGL) filed a notice of data breach with the Attorney General of Maine and began sending out data breach notification letters to over 167,000 individuals.

An investigation into suspicious network activity concluded that an unauthorized party was able to gain access to the life insurance company’s email server, which in turn may have compromised the following sensitive information:

  • Names
  • Social Security numbers
  • Financial account information

Upon the completion of the data breach investigation, PGL started sending out data breach notification letters to all individuals whose information was potentially impacted. The letters should provide victims with more details about the unfortunate incident and may outline exactly what data was leaked.

The Pacific Guardian Life Insurance data breach was very recently announced, and more information is expected to come to light in the coming weeks. Operating out of Honolulu, Hawaii, Pacific Guardian Life Insurance Company is an insurance company providing life and disability insurance products through more than a thousand authorized agents in 46 states.
