Southern Orthopaedic Associates (Orthopaedic Institute of Western Kentucky) has begun alerting over 106,000 patients of a data breach incident that may have compromised their personal information, including names and Social Security numbers. With a Social Security number, hackers have the ability to commit fraud and identity theft.

Southern Orthopaedic says in July 2021 they became aware of suspicious activity on their employee email network. They later concluded with the help of third-party experts that a cybercriminal accessed several employee email accounts between June 24, 2021 and July 8, 2021. The information that may have been stolen includes names and Social Security numbers.
