- Transamerica has sent data breach notices to clients, alerting them of a potential network security breach
- Exposed client personal information allegedly includes names, addresses, Social Security numbers, dates of birth, and 401k info
The American insurance and retirement company Transamerica Corporation has begun sending out notices of a data breach to some customers, informing them of a security breach that may impact their personal privacy.
The Transamerica data breach resulted from an IT error that occurred during the upgrade of one of their plan administration websites on June 14, 2021.
Only in July did Transamerica realize that some unauthorized individuals outside the company could access retirement plan information about clients. Transamerica corrected the mistake, though three weeks after the data was exposed.
Personal information that may have been accessed by unauthorized users may include the following:
- Full name
- Physical address
- Social Security number
- Date of birth
- Retirement plan contribution details
Transamerica conducted a data breach investigation and found no signs of data misuse, however there is some doubt about where the data may have ended up. The full scope of the Transamerica data breach incident and the number of clients who may have been affected has not been determined.
