Representing Ohio Alcoa Workers in Mesothelioma & Asbestos Cancer Claims

Former workers at the Reynolds Metals and Alcoa plants may have been exposed to asbestos, and have an increased risk to develop lung diseases and deadly cancers such as lung cancer and mesothelioma. Recent medical studies have concluded aluminum smelting increases the risk of workers developing lung cancer and possibly other diseases.

Like many other companies in the aluminum and refining industry, the Cleveland, Ohio Alcoa plant commonly used asbestos as an insulator on its work sites. For decades, this dangerous material went unregulated as it posed terrible health risks, often being sent airborne and inhaled by workers in aluminum smelting facilities.

Alcoa used asbestos because the desirable properties outweighed the risks before employers knew of the extreme health consequences. The aluminum and metalworking industry used many toxic materials alongside the many corrosive chemicals and high temperatures in facilities.

Asbestos was used throughout many Alcoa aluminum plants. A natural heat resistance made it an effective insulator for many high-temp environments. The material was used in aluminum plants and metal works facilities so often that it still exists in many buildings.

Asbestos was used widely in aluminum plants, including in construction materials, machinery used to manufacture and refine aluminum, and in fireproof safety clothing.

Aluminum smelting pots often required asbestos insulation, and was replaced often. Crucibles were also crucial, and lined with refractory brick that was insulated with asbestos. For decades, aluminum plants like Alcoa insulated furnaces with asbestos to prevent burns and contain the extreme heat.

The Alcoa Corporation was founded in 1888 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and still operates as one of the world’s leading producers of aluminum. Lawsuits have been filed against the company, making injury claims for the following:

  • Disfigurement Damages (past and future)
