Chevron Federal Credit Union (CFCU) Data Breach Investigation
The Lyon Firm is reviewing Chevron Federal Credit Union (CFCU) data breach claims linked to the MOVEit cyberattack that has hobbled hundreds of organizations and millions of individuals worldwide.
According to recent reports, over 90,000 individuals with ties to CFCU may be impacted by a data security incident. On August 24, 2023, Chevron Federal Credit Union filed a notice of data breach with the Attorney General of Maine after confirming that MOVEit, a file-sharing application used by CFCU, contained a critical vulnerability that led to possible data leaks. Personal data that may be compromised could include the following:
- Names
- Social Security numbers
- Financial account information
After an investigation, CFCU has started sending out data breach notification letters to individuals whose information was affected by the incident.

What happened?
In May 2023, Progress Software notified CFCU that MOVEit was found to contain a critical vulnerability. CFCU eventually determined that an unauthorized party was able to decrypt and download some personal data in the MOVEit application between May 30, 2023 and May 31, 2023.
