The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration recently announced a recall of more than 254,000 Ford and Lincoln SUVs due to a software defect that can disable safety systems. If you own one of the affected vehicles, contact our auto recall lawyers to learn more.

What Vehicles Are Affected?

The recall covers 254,640 vehicles under NHTSA recall number 26V165. The affected models are:

  • 2022 to 2025 Lincoln Navigator
  • 2024 to 2025 Lincoln Nautilus
  • 2025 Lincoln Aviator
  • 2025 Ford Explorer

What Is the Problem?

The defect involves the Image Processing Module A, which can unexpectedly reset when it becomes overloaded tracking a high volume of moving objects, such as in heavy traffic. When this reset occurs, drivers can lose their rearview camera image entirely, along with several advanced driver assistance systems including pre-collision assist and blind-spot monitoring.

Drivers may notice warning messages on their display panel such as "Front Camera Fault" or "Pre-Collision Assist Not Available." These are failures that can lead to serious accidents, particularly for drivers who have come to depend on these systems as part of their regular driving habits.

A Pattern That Demands Accountability

Ford issued 152 recall notices in 2025, nearly double the previous record set by General Motors in 2014. So far in 2026, the company has already recalled more than 7.4 million vehicles across 18 separate recalls. Motor1.com

Ford executives have stated that the high recall volume reflects the company's prioritization of safety and quality, arguing that finding and fixing problems quickly is a sign of improvement. But for consumers who have been driving vehicles with undetected defects, that explanation offers little comfort.
