According to the notice posted by Reynolds Road Surgical Center LLC, doing business as Wildwood Surgical Center, an unauthorized party allegedly gained access to the facility's computer network over a three-day window in late June 2025. Wildwood says it first detected suspicious activity on June 26,2025, then retained outside cybersecurity specialists to investigate. That investigation determined the unauthorized access began on June 24, 2025,meaning the unauthorized party had access to sensitive systems before anyone at the facility was aware.
Although lengthy forensic investigations are not uncommon following cybersecurity incidents, extended delays between discovery and notification can become an issue examined in data breach litigation, depending on the facts and applicable law.
According to Wildwood's notice, the compromised data may include:
This type of information can remain valuable to identity thieves for years after a breach. Unlike payment cards, Social Security numbers generally cannot be changed, and when combined with medical records, this information may be used for medical identity theft, fraud, or highly targeted phishing attacks.
Surgical centers and other healthcare providers have legal and ethical obligations to safeguard the personal and medical information entrusted to them. When those obligations are not met—whether because of inadequate cybersecurity measures, delayed detection, or other circumstances that contribute to the unauthorized exposure of sensitive information—affected individuals may have legal remedies available.
