Apple Valley Clinic Data Breach

The Apple Valley Clinic and Allina Health discovered recently that its network had been compromised by a cyberattack, affecting tens of thousands of patients. The Apple Valley Clinic is contracted with Netgain Technology to host its information technology network, and Netgain informed the clinic of the data breach while they regained control of its systems and recovered personal data.

Allina Health confirmed that the data involved in the cyberattack contained sensitive patient data, including the following:

• Names
• Dates of birth
• Social security numbers
• Bank account and routing numbers
• Patient billing information
• Medical information, such medical symptoms and diagnosis

The Apple Valley Clinic recently implemented Allina Health’s electronic health record system and migrated the Apple Valley Clinic data to a new IT system, making them vulnerable for a hack. Netgain said it is continuing to identify potential impacts from the attack.

Allina Health is a not-for-profit health care system with over 90 clinics, 11 hospitals, 15 retail pharmacies, specialty care centers and specialty medical services, home care, and emergency medical transportation services.
