Elara Caring, a subsidiary of BW Homecare Holdings, announced that the company experienced a phishing attack, impacting more than 100,000 patients. Late in 2020, suspicious activity was reported on employee email accounts, noting unauthorized access to the network, potentially compromising patient data, which may include the following:

  • Names
  • Addresses
  • Social Security numbers
  • Driver’s license numbers
  • Bank account information
  • Dates of birth
  • Email addresses and passwords
  • Insurance information
  • Passport numbers

A review of the compromised email accounts shows that 100,487 patients may be affected by the Elara Caring data breach. Elara Caring has said they have moved to improve data security as well as provided additional cybersecurity training to their employees.
