Juul vaping addiction lawsuits are being filed in Ohio and across the country on behalf of injured consumers

Vaping and E-cigarette products are still pretty new, and scientists are working to understand fully what their health implications may be. But much of the research available so far points to severe addiction potential, far more so than traditional cigarettes.

The vaping industry has also marketed their products as safe alternatives, and a mend to quit smoking, though reports of severe lung disease and vaping addiction have consumers and consumer protection attorneys filing class action lawsuits.

Ohio Vaping Lawsuits

Ohio vaping addiction lawsuits are following cases filed in other states, such as a recent claim in Illinois against Juul, alleging that the company markets its products to appeal to teens and young consumers. The lawsuit names Juul Labs, Philip Morris USA, and the Philip Morris parent company Altria as defendants, saying they encourage the use of vaping products and e-cigarettes in the youth market.

The plaintiff says he began using Juul e-cigarettes when he was 16, and had no knowledge that the product contained more nicotine than traditional cigarettes.

Vaping addiction lawsuits allege that Juul failed to warn consumers about addiction risks and injury risks, and many consumers have felt the effects of the dangerous products. Severe respiratory illness and lung disease has caused the hospitalization of hundreds and a few deaths. Attorneys have called the vaping industry negligent, deceptive, unfair and unlawful.

Tobacco use, once in decline, is again increasing in the U.S., in large part due to vaping products. About 1 in 5 high schoolers, and nearly 1 in 20 middle school students use e-cigarettes each month. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) said earlier this month it received over 120 reports of seizures or neurological symptoms following vape and e-cig use.

Juul, under investigation for deluding young consumers about the safety of e-cigarettes, has denied that their product presents a severe health risk. There are still several unknowns, however, Juul addiction lawsuits have moved forward, and plaintiffs are seeking compensation for e-cigarette injuries and severe vaping addiction. Lawsuits have named Juul and Altria as defendants.  Juul has now discontinued the sales of flavored vaping products.

As vaping injury and vaping addiction cases are piling up, many more lawsuits are expected in the coming months. Vaping injury cases and deceptive marketing lawsuits are likely to be consolidated in multidistrict litigation before a federal judge. State attorneys general are investigating the corporate actions of Juul, along with the Food and Drug Administration and the U.S. Federal Trade Commission.
