Hendrick Health, a healthcare provider in Abilene, Texas, reported a network security threat late in 2020 that affected up to 640,436 patients’ personal information. Hendrick Health reported the data breach on January 15, compromising hundreds of thousands of Americans, according to the Office for Civil Rights breach report.

In a security notice, Hendrick Health said it immediately began working to secure the breached systems and began an investigation. Hendrick confirmed that that an unauthorized party had access to the following patient information for a month:

  • Demographic info
  • Names
  • Social Security numbers

The initial security notice was posted on the Hendrick Health website in November 2020. The data breach is one of the largest healthcare data breach incidents reported thus far in 2021.
