Health Net, LLC reported that in January 2021, networks were hacked and personal data was stolen from the Accellion system, which stored the files of multiple healthcare entities. The cyberattack resulted in a hacker with the ability to view or save data from the Health Net files. Multiple lawsuits have already been filed over the alleged data breach.
Personal information compromised may have included names and the following:
- Address
- Date of birth
- Insurance ID Number
- Health information, such as your medical condition(s) and treatment information
Several healthcare organizations have confirmed they have been affected by the Accellion cyberattack, linked to a ransomware gang known to publish data. Health Net has reported that the data breach may affect over 1.2 million individuals across Health Net Community Solutions (686,556 individuals), Health Net of California (523,709 individuals), and Health Net Life Insurance Company (26,637 individuals).
Trinity Health and California Health & Wellness also recently announced they were victims of the Accellion cyberattack.
